I finished my first pair of socks! These are for Emma. Kate gets a pair next, and I can't wait to make some for myself.

Stephanie - Thanks! Lest you think I'm more amazing than I really am, I should point out that it was a self-striping yarn, so all the color changes were built right in.

Michi - Thank you! I think she is -- she wore them to school as soon as they were done so she could show them to everyone and tell them her mom made them. I just hope I can knit another pair for her before she wears this pair out!

How hard was the heel? That's what always stopped me!

Patti, the heel really isn't hard at all. In fact, I love doing the heel - it's like working magic.

I am so impressed! My elder female relatives knitted socks. I still remember my grandfather wearing hand-knitted socks (Argyle, of all things). Did you learn how to darn socks as a girl? I did. Now I've really dated myself.

Crawling back into the woodwork,
Ginger

Sarah - Is that size 7 US? Favorite color/colors? Knitting socks is a blast!

Ginger - Ha! No, I've never darned a sock, other than to look at the hole and say 'darn it'! before dropping it in the trash. Wow, argyle! That's a lot of work. I think I'll stick with the self-striping yarn. I'm working on a pair for Kate now, but am dying to make some for myself.
