Happiness

Happiness Makes up in Height for What it Lacks in Length
         - Robert Frost

To balance out my last post, here are a few of the little things that bring me joy:

- an unexpected love letter

- warm sand between my toes

- a cat's purr

- giving someone the right of way in heavy traffic

- sticky kid-kisses

- chocolate

- the languid arc of a heron in flight

- poetry that is profoundly simple and unpretentious

- snow falling

- the tug of discovery when inspiration strikes and a poem or story pours out

- a random smile from a total stranger

I could go on and on, but now it's your turn. What makes you happy?

These thrill me, among other things:

- an unexpected yet welcome kiss

- reading the perfectly crafted sentence, that somehow balances depth with art, a sentence that lingers like the kiss from above.

- the warmth of two bodies togther under warm sheets.

- a cool summer breeze on a stifling night

- frigid weather that instantly freezes my nose hairs and bites at any exposed skin.

- kindness, genuine and pure

- the crunch of snow under foot, as I tread a moonlit path in the woods.

listening to music
hearing from an old friend
when my son tells me he loves me
playing with my dog
enjoying a good meal/glass of wine
writing a good poem
a day off
as you said i could go on & on.
nice escape from the recent sadness of Katrina.
